Built : 1956-57 by Metropolitan Vickers at Dukinfield Works, Manchester. Rebuilt 1970-79 by CIE at Inchicore Works, Dublin. formerly known as C class. These loco's were bought from CIE in 1986 & all are now withdrawn.
 
Engine 1955-56 : Crossley EST V8 550h.p. (410kw) 
 
Engine 1970 : General Motors 8-cylinder B645E  twin bank blower-scavenged developing 821 kW (1100 h.p.) at 900rpm .
 
Transmission : Electric. 4 axle hung nose suspended Metropolitan Vickers MV137CW traction motors.
 
Max. Tractive Effort : 153 kN (34440 ibf).
 
Power at Rail : 630 kW (842 h.p.).
 
Weight : 61.5 tons
 
Length Over Buffers : 12.80 m (42 feet )
 
Wheel Diameter : 965 mm (3 feet 2 inches).
 
Train Brakes : Vacuum & Air
 Maximum Speed : 80 m.p.h.

All members of this class were withdrawn in 1994
